Frequently Asked Questions

So what is solar energy?

Solar energy takes advantage of the sun’s rays to generate heat or electricity. It is an infinitely renewable resource and unique for its ability to generate energy in a quiet, clean, and consistent manner.

Does my house qualify for solar?

A Devert Energy Consultant will help you determine if your home is a good candidate for solar. Keep in mind that you must own the home where you want solar installed and have high utility bills. Our customers typically spent over $100 per month on electricity before signing up with us.

Some other things that could determine if you qualify for solar is your roof type, your credit score and the shading on your home. All of these will be addressed during your free consultation.

Can I take my home off the electrical grid?

No, it is not permitted in San Diego County and it is not typically recommended for several reasons. First, batteries add significant costs to your system. Second, you may not be eligible for some incentives if you do not connect your system to your utility. Lastly, staying connected to the grid ensures you will rarely ever be without power, unlike batteries that have a limited lifespan and storage capacity.

Which is better, purchase or lease it?

It depends on your financial goals. We’ve discovered that 95% of our customers benefit more from a power purchase agreement (PPA) than a solar lease or purchase. The PPA is the best option if you want to start saving immediately with no upfront cost.

Purchasing a solar energy system typically have a 8 to 10 year ROI, so if you’re looking for an upfront investment with good returns consider purchasing. You’ll need money to purchase the system, plus an accountant who understands solar energy tax benefits.

Does a solar system affect my roof integrity?

With proper design and installation following industry best practices, your roof should maintain all its pre-solar integrity. Devert Energy audits and trains all our Installers on these best practices so that you can rest easy knowing that your roof will be okay.

Can I really save on my utility bills from Devert Energy solar power system?

Yes. It depends, in part, on how much electricity you use and how efficient the appliances are that you operate. That said expect to generate excess electricity in the summer (when days are long) which can potentially offset the energy you use from the grid in the winter.
